Kate, in particular, was a very early champion of my work. Thinking about  objects and their purpose or their jobs, that is one that would be like “I really don’t want to do this.”

Plunger’s most vocal opponent is a vacuum cleaner who spends most of the book trying to put the kibosh on Plunger’s wish to change. Is there particular significance to the character being a plunger as opposed to say, a measuring tape or an ice cube tray?

I think that a plunger felt right because no one is happy using a plunger.

People stay with me, and I’m an inquisitive person. When she’s not avoiding getting run over or stamped on, she enjoys munching on free samples or taking dangerous little naps by the shore.

Can you tell us a bit about your new show “Fantasmas”?

Was it easy to express who you were, or did you need to hide parts of yourself?

I felt like I was in an incubator.

A beach vampire who has discovered SPF 100 and now enjoys walks on the beach. Were there moments when you doubted your talent, or did you always believe you would achieve your goals regardless of the obstacles?

I guess I define “where I am” to be a place where I can make a living from doing what I love, creating in ways that feel true to me with people I enjoy – In that regard, I certainly always wanted it but didn’t trouble myself with wondering if it was going to happen or not.

Because it’s in the mundane that the humor and the story really comes alive. I’m not sure what “making it” looks like, what the dollar amount is, or what the amount of followers is; I just know that I’d love to continue to make it work.

That felt almost like a kid was opening a coffee-table book and they were taking away something, rather than being talked down to.

The main character in “I Want to Be a Vase” is Plunger. Rather than making a book that was punishing to the antagonist, I wanted one that was inclusive, and asks the questions, “You’re saying no, but why?

Still, that suggestion alone made me realize Tomasso and I were operating on the same frequency. I thought instead of fighting that, embracing it.

How did you know that a book was the right shape for “I Want to Be a Vase” instead of a video representation, an area in which you’ve worked before?

I wanted the book itself to be a beautiful object.

You may discover things you enjoy. On TV, Torres’ comedy writing for “SNL” earned him an Emmy nomination, while a current project such as HBO’s “Los Espookys” continues to grow his following. the freedom to make fun of projects out of photoshoots. That’s why I felt like a vacuum cleaner was appropriate.

The vacuum cleaner has a turning point when they say, “I was worried something bad would happen if you got to be whatever you wanted.” Was this line of thinking, which is reminiscent of that espoused by the more conservative element in our country, part of the inspiration for the book?

Yeah, absolutely.
